So, this is the bit where I talk about myself, try and pay attention I'll keep it short so you can stay awake long enough to get to the donation page.

I'm Anthony Crook, Lucas' Uncle,

I think my friend Steve said it best when he asked 'What on earth is SMA?'

I like him had absolutely no idea what Spinal Muscular Atrophy was (in fact I could barely remember its full title until I had done some reading up - go to the ABOUT section to find out more about SMA).

It took me a while to process the situation that this was in fact happening to my nephew, there you are meandering your way through this life, and then all of a sudden everything stops and you are watching it fall apart and for no other reason than the cruel lottery of a defective gene. I thought I knew heart break until September 2008 came around and knocked us all of our feet. So here we are... I have to at this point mention Danielle, my best friend of 10 years and how it really isn't possible to measure her input and support in this whole mad capped harebrained idea. I didn't even have to ask her to come she just asked me 'When we were going?'.

Everyone who knows Anthony knows that he loves two things more than anything else in the world...
1) Dogs (especially black labradors)
2) His family, oh and himself, that's three!

When Lucas was born Anthony sent all of his friends messages alerting everyone of Lucas's arrival into the world. He was a proud uncle excited to watch his second nephew grow up. Play football with him, tell him rude jokes, get him hyper on Ribena and hand him back, all the things the best uncles do with their nephews. Sadly Anthony will never get to tell Lucas those jokes or watch him kick a football around the park but he will be able to carry on his name and provide help for little babies just like Lucas.

Anthony wants to carry on the legacy of Lucas because he loves his family. I want to help Anthony do this because he is my best friend and I find him bearable.

When i heard about Baby Lucas, his family and their story I instantly wanted to help or give my support. Going on this bike ride is my effort to do this. I might not be a doctor but i am handy with bike tools, i am adept at reading maps, i write very persuading fundraising e-mails and will hopefully be able to mediate between Anthony and Danielle when they wind each other up.
Hopefully together we will raise our target of £10,000, cycle 1,000 miles, take Lucas with us and make his family smile when they sometimes don't feel like it.
